Arm’s Neoverse N1 & E1 Platform: An Infrastructure For Trillion Intelligent Devices

-

Building the cloud-to-edge infrastructure needed for one trillion intelligent devices will require a broad ecosystem with technology, expertise, and commitment to transform the internet. One such missing piece to fit into this ecosystem is the processor to meet the demand, and the Neoverse comes to the rescue.

A decade ago, ARM established the Cortex brand and an ecosystem of products around it with a spectrum including tiny embedded cores suitable for ultra-low-power computing high-end smartphone products. ARM has now started hype the advantages of new ARM chips for obvious reasons of not enjoying the brand recognition as Intel. In fact, IDC has named ARM as the No. 1 company in the data center, all the credit goes to chips used in networking equipment and servers. ARM using this expertise and to prove the leadership, launched the Neoverse N1 & Neoverse E1 platform for cloud to edge infrastructure.

Arm promises that Neoverse-powered products will enable the diverse set of high-performance, secure, and scalable solutions required for the foundation of the infrastructure in a world of a trillion intelligent devices.

Neoverse came into existence to enable a high-performing, flexible cloud-to-edge infrastructure built for the next era of computing; but when we take a step back to think about what “one trillion devices” looks like, it is incredible to realize the amount of data that will need to be processed as a result.

The existing infrastructure is not ready for what’s next. Computing as we know it is changing. It’s expanding and happening at multiple layers from cloud to edge to endpoint, emphasizing the need for a nimble and robust infrastructure ready to take on more data processing than ever before.

How Arm Neoverse tackle the major challenge?

By 2021, it is expected that 94% of workloads and compute instances will be processed by cloud data centers, requiring massive amounts of processing for popular applications like video streaming, Internet search, and social networking, and do so within the power availability envelope. Looking ahead, the processing requirements are even greater as faster 5G networks are deployed, and billions of smartphones become enabled with ultra-high definition (UHD) or 4K viewing capabilities, for example. When you factor in all the compute required to ensure a flawless end-user experience, while also using compute cycles to process and analyze the data being generated and process it closer to the user, maintaining strong performance at deficient power levels is imperative. This is where Neoverse IP comes into the picture.

The advancements that ARM has brought are required to control the explosion of data. There is not only a need of the increased compute performance but also efficient data movement. The data moved around could be processed, analyzed, filtered, and stored. ARM Neoverse N1 and E1 platform fulfill all such requirements and is ready to take the market by storm.
