Cohesity, a data management software firm, has announced that it is creating a new cloud-based Data Management-as-a-Service (DMaaS) offering. The company plans to do so with the help of Amazon Web Services (AWS). The service aims to help companies secure, govern, and analyze their ever-growing data repositories.
The new service will provide enterprises an easy way to control their data. Cohesity announced that it will manage the DMaaS offering via Hellos platform, which will be hosted on AWS.
Simplifying what’s complex
The service takes care of the mundane work needed to do manage data. This comes as a boon for technology executives who do not want to get their hands into data management. The reason is not it is way out of their domain but it requires use of multiple vendors for backups, Disaster Recovery (DR), analytics, and storage along with a large IT staff. Sounds complex, right?
The data serves intelligence in different verticals too. For instance, insights from data about supply chain and logistics are becoming crucial, especially during the pandemic as companies want to stay competitive. The pandemic has brought forth one of the most overlooked aspects of data management, i.e., data modelling and predictive modelling. These two models can help companies forecast and meet demands more efficiently.
Mohit Aron, Founder and CEO, Cohesity, spoke to Wall Street Journal stating, “a typical customer has all these different vendors in their data centers and in the clouds that they’re using. They want to simplify.”

Nitty-gritties of the new offering
Enterprises can now subscribe to various data management products dedicated to multiple use cases. Cohesity stated that this will help enterprises to consolidate vendors and data silos. The end-users also get the abilities to manage both on-prem and cloud environments, security and malware detection via ML, and adopt the pay-as-you-go model.
The most crucial part in the new offerings will be played by AWS. Sabina Joseph (General Manager at AWS Americas for ISV relationships) told CRN that AWS is planning to offer more services for data managed on Cohesity’s new DBaaS service.
Cohesity said that the customers can get early access starting this month with free trials in the AWS US east and west regions. While general availability is expected in December around the time Amazon hosts its annual re:Invent conference.
