Google Cloud India appoints Karan Bajwa (Former MD, IBM) as new MD

Google has turned its cloud business to Karan Bajwa, a veteran of the operating technology industry in the country, and has been appointed as managing director of Google Cloud India.

From now onwards, Bajwa is responsible for the revenue and marketing activities of Google Cloud’s comprehensive solution portfolio, which includes the Google Cloud Platform and G Suite. He will report to Google Cloud’s field sales, partner, and customer engineering organizations in India. He will advise on Google Cloud’s ongoing work with local developer ecosystems and India-based Global System Integrators (GSIs).

The company’s (Google Cloud) Managing Director, Rick Harshman, said “Karan is a veteran in the industry with a proven track record of building and growing successful enterprise businesses. His experience will be a tremendous asset to Google Cloud’s business, our partners and our customers as we embark on this next phase of growth.”

Google Cloud India has been hiring for the past two years to expand its footprint in the country, which is a key area for the growth of its cloud business.

In September, Google Cloud India chief Nitin Pawankule left the company, joining Star India as head of ad sales.

Bajwa, a senior leader with more than three decades of leadership experience, joins Google Cloud from IBM, where he served as Managing Director of India and South Asia. Before IBM, he worked with Microsoft for nine years, his last role as managing director for the company’s operations in India. He has also worked at Cisco Systems in India and Singapore.

IBM India lost two senior leaders – India MD Karan Bajwa and APAC CEO Harriet Green.

After Bajwa’s departure, IBM announced the appointment of Sandeep Patel as Managing Director of India and South Asia operations.

In India, businesses working with Google Cloud include Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, IndiMart, Hero MotoCorp, ICICI Prudential, L&T Finance, LIC HFL, Manipal Hospitals, OYO Hotels and Homes, TruColor and Wipro.
