RDS instance service limits need to be checked regularly

-

Keeping an eye on your AWS RDS service limits are as important as keeping intact the security aspect of RDS as they play a major role in impacting the scalability of your database resources in cloud.

How do you know that your service limit for RDS instances has breached?

Database instance being the basic element of RDS, a user can create multiple databases in that one single DB instance.

However, there is a limit on the number of RDS instances a user can spin up in a particular AWS region. You should be aware of such limits as it helps in the internal capacity planning of your cloud infrastructure. This could also help you in avoiding the wastage of resources.

Centilytics helps you keep tabs on your service limits

Centilytics provides a dedicated insight into RDS instance limit which gives you warnings whenever they are about to breach the service limit set by AWS. This insight helps users in managing their cloud resources more efficiently for they can either get their service limits increased if required or control unnecessary usage of their resources.

Insight descriptions:

There can be 3 possible scenarios:

Severity Description
CRITICAL This indication will be displayed when the user has breached 100% of the specified limit of the corresponding resource.
WARNING This indication will be displayed when the user has breached 80% of the specified limit of the corresponding resource.
OK This indication will be displayed when the user has breached less than 80% of the specified limit of the corresponding resource.

Description of further columns are as follows:

  1. Account Id: This column shows the respective account ID of the user’s account.AWS RDS ss1
  2. Account Name: This column shows the corresponding account name to the user’s account.AWS RDS ss2
  3. Region: This column shows the region in which the corresponding resource exists.AWS RDS ss3
  4. Limit Amount: This column shows the limit of the resource which is available. Here, the limit refers to the capacity of the RDS database.  AWS RDS ss990
  5. Current usage: This column shows the current usage level of the corresponding resource.AWS RDS s4443
  6. Service: This column shows the type of service limit.AWS RDS ss777
