Builders (aka Developers), software developers, IT professionals, and cloud lovers, everybody waits for the end of the year. Not just for the new year but the re:Invent. The re:Invent 2019 filled all the promises to be the biggest event with more than 65,000 attendees. AWS made tons of announcements to show how gigantic they are and how rapidly they are innovating to steer cloud adoption at a rapid pace.
CMI brings you the top 7 announcements from AWS re:Invent 2019 that made headlines which, for obvious reasons, you can’t miss.
1. AWS Wavelength to make single-digit latency reality
What is it?
Waiting for 5G? The dream of using the fastest internet will become real soon with AWS Wavelength. (but this depends if your telecom operator has a partnership with AWS)
Why this is important?
Several telecom giants are putting efforts to make 5G available globally, but the harsh truth is the latency that limits the user to use the advancement of 5G. So, AWS has partnered with several telecom providers to introduce wavelength. Verizon has put everything into action with a preview of its 5G services in Los Angeles using AWS Wavelength.
AWS Wavelength embeds compute and storage devices at the edge of telecom providers 5G networks. This results in minimum network hops and latency to run back and forth from your 5G device to your application.
2. Amazon Braket to offer Quantum computing on cloud
What is it?
Yes, you read it right – “Quantum Computing.” Amazon announced a groundbreaking service, Amazon Braket, which offers a fully managed quantum computing service in cloud. Interesting, right?
Why this is important?
That’s a no brainer, after all, it’s related to “Quantum.”
If your quantum knowledge is limited to Schrodinger’s cat or the traveling salesman problem, then don’t worry. AWS announced Amazon Braket with a stack of tools to help you in the learning curve. It is a fully managed service that provides a development environment to explore and design quantum algorithms, test them on simulation quantum computers, and run them on your choice of different quantum hardware technologies. 3. Get a nitro boost for new EC2 instance types
What is it?
Amazon announced AWS Nitro System as an underlying platform for the latest generation of EC2 instance types.
Why this is important?
With conventional methods, hypervisors secure the bare metal and bios, virtualize the CPU, storage, networking, and offers a rich set of management capabilities. So, the Nitro system helps to break apart all the functions, then offload each of them on dedicated hardware and software. It helps to reduce costs by practically delivering every resource of a server to your instance. Learn more about the AWS Nitro System here.
4. Access the builders’ library for a plethora of knowledge on how AWS operates
What is it?
AWS launched Amazon Builders’ Library as a one-stop solution with all the resources to understand how AWS operates.
Why this is important?
This is really helpful for all the cloud gurus out there. Nobody can’t be a cloud guru without the understanding of AWS cloud, apart from AWS blogs. Currently, Amazon Builder’s Library has only 13 articles, but Amazon plans to update it regularly.

5. Amazon offers a real helping hand as CodeGuru
What is it?
Amazon CodeGuru is a machine learning service to automate all the code review that you select. You get the recommendations around for performance improvements and best practices.
Why this is important?
The developers’ (aka builders’) team can opt to adopt it as a crucial part of their workflows. One can choose it as a tool for benchmarking their own code reviews.
If everything turns out perfect with respect to this service, as Andy Jassy suggested in his keynote. This will be a revolution and a powerful tool for all the development projects, no matter big or small. Learn more about the announcement here.
6. Outposts bring AWS to your server room
What is it?
AWS announced the general availability of AWS Outposts, which was released with a preview version in re:Invent 2018.
AWS Outposts facilitates access to few (at present) AWS services in a local environment but still fully managed by AWS itself.
Why this is important?
AWS Outposts brings a twist to the traditional cloud computing definition. It provides an on-prem installation for clients to have access to a limited set (that’s okay, things will get better from here) of AWS services on site.
AWS Outposts – a hardware rack used by AWS itself in its data centers around the globe. The on-site installation enables fast localized testing of deployments and much more.

7. AWS going strong in its M/L game
What is it?
AWS flooded the market with announcements of several new services and features inspired and powered by machine learning (ML). The new additions help resolve security issues, fraud detections, review of ML predictions, and AWS Compute optimization.
Why this is important?
Here’s a list of machine learning services and features:
Amazon Detective leverages machine learning to ID potential security issues in your account. It can be put into action with GuardDuty, which helps in detecting unusual behavior from VPC Flow logs and CloudTrail. Now, you can perform a more in-depth investigation into that behavior based on machine learning.
Augmented AI service is like assistance to perform a human review of the outputs of your models, which might be too much for human resources.
Amazon Fraud Detector is a managed service with which customers can create a fraud detection model within minutes. Users don’t need to acquire any machine learning expertise to use this service.
AWS Compute Optimizer provides customers with free insights and recommendations on their EC2 instance size and autoscaling group choices.
