VMware Cloud on AWS promises more affordability with new announcements

VMware and Amazon Web Services announced a series of VMware Cloud updates on AWS, designed to enable the collectively designed cloud offering to reach a broader range of customers and use cases. These announcements include the new Amazon EC2 instances offering lower costs, the new cluster configuration to lower entry prices for production environments, and the new multi-tenancy cloud management service that makes the service more accessible to partners and small businesses.

VMware Cloud on AWS is a collectively designed service that brings the VMware Cloud Foundation to Amazon Web Services (AWS), with optimal access to AWS services. This service provides rapid cloud migration, powered by VMware HCX and vMotion, integrated with standard hybrid cloud infrastructure and functions. Once applications are migrated, customers can run, manage, and modernize them with the VMware Tanzu portfolio, and integrate their own AWS services. As of June 2020, total VMs has increased 3.5 times, and total hosts have increased 2.5 times per year. More than 500 channel partners have access to the VMware Cloud on AWS service capability, of which 43 have a Master Services expertise, and AWS clients have more than 300 certified or verified technical solutions for the VMware Cloud.

“VMware Cloud on AWS unlocks the power of cloud, enabling customers to rapidly migrate apps, scale resources up or down based on demand, deliver resources for new remote work initiatives, and drive app modernization strategies,” said Mark Lohmeyer, senior vice president and general manager, cloud services business unit, VMware. “Along with AWS, VMware’s preferred public cloud partner for vSphere-based workloads, we are accelerating service innovation and broadening access to VMware Cloud on AWS to help more businesses support the demands of a broad range of enterprise applications and use cases, while delivering the best economic value.”

VMware Cloud innovation in AWS offers a better cloud economy.

VMware continues to provide key capabilities to accelerate customer migration and modernization travel and further support business regression with VMware Cloud on AWS. VMware announces the following improvements that will enable customers to move and modernize applications while running the best cloud economy from the VMware Cloud on AWS.

New i3en.metal phenomenon: This new host type is based on 2nd generation Intel Zion ® scalable processors. It is designed for storage-intensive workloads with high-performance requirements and provides a high economy for data center migration and disaster recovery conversion projects. These new events offer 4x source storage capacity at about half the cost of one GB of storage for current offerings. Besides, it requires more random I / O access to large amounts of data, such as databases associated with applications with less delayed non-volatile memory express (NVM) SST capability. Native encryption at the NIC level provides better protection for east-west traffic within the STDC border. By mixing and fitting i3en events for storage, the customer can get an even better economy.

2-Host Product Cluster Reduces Starting Cost by 33%: The 2-Host Cluster provides a new, smaller minimalist environment for production workloads, and enables more customers, partners and managed service providers (MSPs) to start with VMware Cloud on AWS. The 2-host cluster is the best way to demonstrate the value of the VMware cloud in AWS and reduce the cost of getting started. With the 2-host cluster, customers can start with a continuous VMware cloud in AWS environments at a 33 percent lower entry cost than the 3-host cluster.

Embrace Cloud Native Infrastructure with VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid: Organizations can deploy, scale, and manage applications packaged in the VMware Cloud in AWS in addition to the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid. Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Packages allow open source technologies and automation tools to get up and running quickly with a scalable, multi-cluster Kubernetes environment. With the Dance Cubernates grid in the VMware Cloud on AWS, customers can use their SDDC in the cloud, with all the elements needed to scale architecture and Kubernetes to their needs.

Expanded Networking Options: VMware Transit Connect (Preview) AWS SDDCs, Amazon Virtual Private Clouds (Amazon VPCs) and managing self-deploying and complex configuration configurations to install a link across the VMware Cloud in on-premises environments. The solution, based on the AWS Transit Gateway service, is a high-bandwidth, low-delay, and flexible connectivity solution that is easy to operate with automated supply and controls. When new contexts are added or removed from a group, the connection pattern is automatically scaled up / down, which gives users flexibility. Additionally, with support for the industry-leading VMware SD-WAN, users on branches or remote locations may have better network connectivity to workloads used in the VMware Cloud on AWS. Provides VMware SD-WAN cloud-provided, the traffic-aware framework supports and enhances any WAN connection or combination of connections.

Multi-tendency reduces the costs of MSPs and opens up new opportunities with SMBs: The VMware Cloud Directory service provides MSPs with a pay-as-you-go model, thus reducing overhead costs for small and medium businesses to pursue. The service enables the AWS to provide flexibility in terms of price and environment by dividing their VMware cloud into multiple pool resource pools in SDDC environments, with better control of resource allocation and support for different consumption models. MSPs can quickly implement changes in resource pools in hosts and twin regions to support global expansion and adapt to customer needs. With accustomed management, they can speed up the market time by reducing functional overlays and a consistent experience for their end customers.
